Global Grant No. 1525605

A $245,000 Global Grant project of the Rotary Club of Cebu, the Paypay National High School Rehabilitation Project is situated in Paypay, Daanbantayan, northern tip of Cebu province.

This project would not be possible if not for the help and efforts of our 2 (two) Rotarians, Sec. Bing Martinez and Rtn. Mike Torres who works outstandingly for the project.

The rationale behind the Rotary Global Grant (RGG) proposal is four-fold: First, to rehabilitate selected parts of the typhoon-damaged physical plant, and in particular, to provide for lab/classroom space, which will be needed starting in SY2016-2017. Second, to provide specialized training to selected teachers to teach the selected technical vocational (tech-voc) courses that will be offered as part of the new Grade 11-12 curriculum, as well as continuing education coursework for the math and science teachers. Third, to provide the equipment needed/required for the courses to be taught at PNHS, both for the tech-voc courses and for the basic science course laboratories (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). And lastly, to provide adequate supporting facilities to allow for the smooth operation of the PNHS, such as library books and equipment for the administrative functions.

The project timetable will span two (2) school years: SY2015-2016 for the planning and initial civil works and equipment, while the final construction and migration of classrooms will be completed at the start of SY2016-2017.

Extent of the library books at PNHS

The PNHS library is a library in name only. There is an insufficiency of textbooks to allow each student an assigned textbook in the core subjects offered, let alone provide reference materials and general literature books in a general circulation library. The bulk of the library books was donated by private individuals and consist of old encyclopedias and fiction and mystery books. One objective of this project is to provide PNHS with sufficient reference books and textbooks. We have secured most of these books from a current Rotary Club of Makati project (another Rotary Global Grant), Books Across the Seas.
